Andrew Henley has been a member of the Stelos family for some time now – he was selected to participate in the Housley Principled Leadership Program in 2012 where he won a scholarship for his dedication to the program. He has also served a Stelos Fellow for the fall and spring semesters of this year where he manages our social media and scholarship marketing efforts.

This spring at the Stelos Alliance Awards, we were proud to award Andrew with the Thomas Dugan Raffen Memorial Scholarship.

In addition to his involvement with the Stelos Alliance, Andrew has maintained leadership positions on campus where he has developed himself and other student leaders in his capacity as the Executive Vice President of Student Foundation and the Senate Pro-Tempore for the Associated Student Government.

Andrew said this about receiving the Raffen Memorial Scholarship: “Working with Stelos has given me a greater knowledge of who Tommy Raffen was, and I am very touched that I was selected to receive this memorial scholarship. Being recognized for the work I’ve done throughout college is very humbling.”

Andrew has a passion for helping younger students fulfill their potential. He valued his time at Texas State very much and credits Student Foundation as the organization that allowed him to feel at home and accomplish his extra-curricular goals on campus.

After graduation in August, Andrew plans to stay in central Texas and pursue work in the non-profit sector before returning to school to receive his MBA.

For us at Stelos, the most rewarding part of our work is creating relationships with students that last beyond their college career. We know Andrew will continue to support our mission and we look forward to continuing to help him reach his potential.

Andrew Henley was named a 2012 recipient of the Housley Principled Leadership Scholarship. This scholarship was awarded to three outstanding participants of the Housley Principled Leadership Program who exemplified Kevin Housley’s principle centered leadership qualities, infectious enthusiasm, and maintained a sincere engagement in the course.

The program’s namesake, Kevin Housley, was a successful businessman who worked as Executive Vice President of Housley Communications.  He served his community tirelessly as a long-time member of the school board in Christoval.  In 2006, Kevin offered himself as a candidate for State Representative.  A few short months after the race, Kevin was diagnosed with brain cancer which ultimately took his life in April 2008.  Kevin is remembered by many as “a shining example of involvement as a community leader, a husband, a father, and a son.” Continue reading
